Santome New Field was developed a little earlier than 300 years ago by the ruler of Kawagoe local government, "Yanagisawa Yoshiatu,Mr." who was the Secretary General for the 5th-Shogun Yoshimune of Edo-Government. In this filed the land was devided into long rectangular units to be alloted to the farmers consisting of "hausing site","farms" and "oaks wood". Those land structure still remains even today and we can see it in this field. Yanagisawa founded and located a temple of "Tafuku-ji" in the center of the filed for the sake of farmers memorial place where large wood area of deciduous oaks well remains today which is probably one of the largest canopies of deciduous oaks among those of musashino.
