The scenery of Tochimoto-Village located at the end of Chichibu-area in Saitama Prefecture seen from the old Route 140 around the point where a checkpoint barrier used to be placed more than hundred years ago. This route used to cross over a moutain pass so called "Karisaka-Pass" only before the "Karisaka-Tunnel", the longest road tunnel in Japan, was cored out through Kanto-mountans in 2000 between Saitama Pref. and Yamanashi Pref.. The earth sand from the tunnel was carried to the "Showa Kinen Park" located in the west of Tokyo to be mounted to a small hill, the quantity of earth sand of which exceeds that of "Nintoku-Emperor's Memorial Hill" and became the highest land point in Tachikawa City. Karisaka-Pass, which means " pass where migrating wild gooses fly over", has its long history in Japan. For example, the oldest history of it tells us that Prince of Yamato-Takeru, a legendary hero of Yamato Imperial Court more than 1500 years ago, entered into Musashino crossing over Karisaka-Pass. Tochimoto Village is located along the steep V-shaped valley, the houses looking like clinging onto the steep slope of the mountain.
