There used to be three "Kamakura Roads" which lead to Kamakura, an old city and used to be the ruling capital of Japan about 8 hundreds years ago. The painted trail in the picture is thought of to be a survival of "Kamakura Road" left along the hills in the "Musashi-Kyuryo government owned Forest Park" located in Hiki-Height.
It was Dec.10, 2000 that I viswited this park to paint the scenery of Kamakura Road left there. In the year of 2000, autumn like fine weather days became to continue in Dec, But it was already in winter and falling laeves were drifting in the air. I entered the park at its south gate and climbed up the hill of deserted ancient castle to come across the ancient Kamakura Road. Initially, the wood along this trail consisted mostly of pine trees then it became those of deciduous oaks mixed with pine trees. It had been cloudy in the morning on that day but it turned out to be suny just after I entered the park and the leaking sunshine upon the trail gave a warm in the scenery of the winter. I took to painting sitting beside the trail at a little later than 1 o'clock in the afternoon. The sun sometime shined and sometime hidden by clouds, it was unbelievablly warm like spring day. It was misterious engouth that the leaves of the deciduous trees suddenly falls off the trees without wind simultaneously and synchronously. Time passed rapidly when painting and I soon heard the announcement at 3 o'clock to remind of the closing time of the gate and I hastened to the south gate. The hills of Hiki-Height late in the afternoon was misted and looked visionary. It was on Dec.12 that I visited again this park to find the wood completely shedded the leaves and I so completed the picture.
