【Early Spring of North Karuizawa】
May 2001 Oil Painting 15F 53.0×65.2cm Lakhan
During the golden holidays of April-May in 2001,I stayed in North-Karuizawa together with may family for several days. When I had visited there 3 years before, the woods had been already fully canopied by fresh leaves. However, in the same season of 2001, the deciduous oak trees were only budding without leaves due to late spring. It was like still early in spring. The wood was a little colored by budding like as it was still in Mar at lower field. The blossoms of magnolias inlaid white spots in the scenery. Early in the morning on the third day of my visit , I found it fine for the first time and went out of the room carrying the painting tools and started painting near the lake of "Shougetu" ,which means lake of "Moon Light" in English, as early as five o'clock in the morning finishing it in the after noon.
